Student Representative Council Junior Soccer Final.
Last Wednesday, 29th Nov, the final of the Junior Soccer League took place. The teams, one from Matthew's 3 and one from Mark's 3 gave us an exciting game. At full time the score was 3-3. It was then decided to go to penalties. After a round of penalties both teams were still level. The team from Mark's 3 eventually won after two sudden death penalties.

We Remember Fr Sean McGoldrick 1960 - 2006.

It was with sadness that the staff and students of St Patrick's College received the news of the death of Fr Sean McGoldrick. Sean was part of the staff between 1987 and 1990. Although this was a relatively short stay, his genuine kindness and spiritual nature had an impact on those who met him.
He will be sadly missed.

The staff and students of St Pat's would like to extend their deepest sympathy to Sean's family and friends at this sad time. May he rest in peace.

6th Secondary Schools Cross-Country event brings home medals for St Pats Athletes. Sept 06
Seventeen members of the St. Patrick's College Athletics team competed in the 6th Secondary Schools Cross-Country event in Finn Valley A.C., Donegal on Thursday 28th September. Overall there was a huge turnout in Stranolar with 600 pupils competing in the event across various ages categories. Competition was fierce but despite the small St. Patrick's College entry, we certainly made a huge impact on the results and shone through in all age categories. Six first years competed including Aodhgán Fox (60th), Damien Mc Kiernan, Enda Mc Manus, Dónal Cooney (51st), Pauric Donnelly (12th) and Andrew O'Brien, with Andrew clinching an impressive seventh out of 120 competitors. The course proved difficult with mucky terrain and numerous lakes of water challenging the competitors. However nothing could stop the amazing Anallee A.C. athletes, Cian O'Reilly and Francis Moore, achieving first and second place respectively. The remaining 80 second years competing were blown away by the speed of Cian and Francis, with Cian recording an outstanding time commended by all onlookers

BADMINTON

Darragh Tighe, Colm Quinn, Sean Connolly, Thomas o'Keeffe, Patrick King and Thomas Kenny.
Congratulations to the St. Patrick's Badminton team who were very successful in the Cavan Schools Badminton tournament held in the Cavan Leisure Complex on Tuesday 21st March.
The team consisted of four pairs, who were selected from over 30 students who took part in trial games in the weeks before the tournament.
After careful selection, those selected to represent the school were Daragh Tighe and Thomas Kenny, Sean Connolly and Colm Quinn, Tomas O Keeffe and Patrick King, and finally Shane Reilly and Anthony Reilly. Niall O 'Gara was the team sub.
The first round saw two St. Pat's teams drawn against each other. Shane O Reilly and Anthony O Reilly were up against Sean Connolly and Colm Quinn. The Reillys from Killashandra came out eventual winners on a scoreline of 24-22.
This meant Sean Connolly and Colm Quinn went into the plate competition. This proved a blessing in disguise as Sean and Colm went on to win all their remaining matches and win the plate competition.
In the main competition Shane Reilly and Anthony Reilly reached the quarter finals before being knocked out by a strong team from the Royal School. The other two pairs all made easy progress through the early rounds.
Well done to all who participated.

All Ireland Medals for brothers, Cian and Fionan O'Reilly.
St Patrick's College athlethes Fionan (5th yr.) and Cian O'Reilly (1st.yr) travelled to DCU in Dublin on March 4th to compete in the All Ireland Secondary Schools Cross Country Finals.
This competition began with Regional races which were held in Dungannon. Here Fionan won the Senior race and Cian was second in the junior category and together with the junior team they qualified for the Ulster Championships.

The Ulster Championshios were held in Mallusk, Belfast, during mid-term break and unfortunately due to illness a depleated Junior team of only three athlethes and Fionan travelled to the race.. Again Cian came second and in a very competitive senior race Fionan finished 12th. These placings qualified both O'Reilly's for the All Ireland Finals.
The All Ireland Finals attracted the top athelethes from the four provinces and each race had over 100 runners. In the junior race Cian finished in third position behind the Munster and Leinster champions, while in the Senior race Fionan met up with very stiff competition and finished 35th position.

Teachers bow out of Senior Soccer League

Tuesday March 14th marked the retirement of the teachers team from the Senior Soccer League. After an exciting battle in the first of two games, the students managed to equalise with a penality just minutes before the final whistle.
The re-play was played out yesterday to a capacity crowd. This game was every bit as exciting as the first, with some very skillful football displayed by both teams.
Unfortunately one team has to be victorious and alas it was not to be the teachers.
Best of luck next year teachers and good luck to the students 5th year team in the remainder of the league.

THE NATIONAL CHAMBER CHOIR
Celebrates St. Patrick's College Creative Schools Project at St. Patrick's College Chapel 8pm sharp,
Wednesday 8th March. Doors open at 7.30pm.

Creative Engagement, The Arts in our Schools.
Last September, St Patrick's College was one of twenty schools nationwide selected to take part in,
"Creative Engagement, The Arts in our Schools" programme. This project was initiated and funded by the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals, in partnership with the Dept of Arts, Sport and Tourism, the Dept of Education and Science, The Arts Council,Cavan County Arts Office and St Patrick's CollegeParents Association.

We began the project with a Sculpture Design Competition, open to all students in St Pat's. Two entries were shortlisted, one designed by Edward Mackey 5th year Art student , and one by Richard Smith, 4th year Art student. Edward's design initially was thought to be cost prohibitive, but by combining an element of Richard's design, the cost was greatly reduced. Further drawings were carried out in the Art room and when a satisfactory design was arrived upon, their drawings were then taken on board by the Technical Graphics class, who transformed the drawings into scaled drawings. These have now been sent to a structural engineer, before being sent for fabrication in stainless steel.

Richard and Edward with their design.

To aid the costs involved in the making and citing of the sculpture, a choral concert featuring
The National Chamber Choir
will be held in the College Chapel on Wednesday 8th March at 7.30pm.
This Event and has been made possible with the generous support of Cavan County Council.

As part of the Sculpture Design process, Cavan Arts Office and the NAPD "Creative Arts Programme" have helped with funding workshops, one in Wood Carving by sculptor Joey Burns, and the second in Glass Casting by artist Frances Traynor, which have taken place in the college since November. Over thirty students have benefited from exposure to new art methods through these workshops. A further workshop is planned in Bronze Casting with Artist in Residence, Holgar Lonze early in March.

. The College Jazz Band and Traditional Group
will provide entertainment in the library.
All Proceeds from the concert go to the Students Sculpture Project.

This is a Nyah Festival Event and has been made possible with the generous support of Cavan County Council.

Wood Carving workshops for 4th and 5th year students.

As part of the Creative Engagement - Arts in our Schools programme which is currently running in St Pat's, a series of wood carving workshops were held before Christmas. Mr Joey Burns, Wood Carver, took charge of a group of twenty students over two days. This was an introductory lesson, where each student was shown the basic techniques used in wood carving. At the end of both sessions each student had a carved version of the ancient celtic triscal.
More workshops are planned in different media over the following months.
