CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

At St Patrick's College students are introduced to the enjoyment and challenge of Chemistry from an early
age until they complete their Leaving Certificate.

At Junior Cycle the new Science Course, with its emphasis on experimental work, introduces students to the practical skills through which chemistry can be learned in an interesting and enjoyable way. In their studies students develop an understanding of the relevance of chemistry in their own lives and in their environment. From water treatment to atmospheric pollution our students are helped to develop a critical awareness of the role of responsible Science in society.

At Leaving Certificate the practical skills learned at Junior Level are further developed. Due to the development of deductive skills and a deeper understanding of the nature of chemistry, this course provides an ideal pathway to many third level courses such as medicine, pharmacology etc, and even maybe a career in chemistry itself.

We hope that our students will have a greater knowledge and appreciation of the role chemistry plays in all our lives as they leave St Patrick's College and go on to play their role in society.
